Green Spaces – decisions looming.

Green Spaces – decisions looming.

On Tuesday 22nd November the full council is to consider the next steps in trying to make the Parks and Green Spaces Strategy (PGSS) work – in particular the way it will be part funded by the sale of some of the land. The report that goes to Council is here . Below, this Stockwood critic’s analysis of it: The report’s written by the ‘cross party working group’ – one member of each of the four parties – that was formed after the last elections, and has been considering the issues ever since. It doesn’t ask the council to make any decision, the rules say that only the Cabinet (a minority Lib-Dem cabinet) can do that. It simply asks the council to ‘note’ the report (which amounts to accepting it) and to invite the Cabinet to choose between two possible approaches to selling off parkland and open space to help fund the strategy. Not a bad start. There was unexpected stiff competition from the Wales-France rugby semi-final, which meant that people trickled in mid-morning, or perhaps they were shopping, but we still had an enjoyable morning. Andy Hamilton lead a number of fascinating mini-tours of the school’s green backyard, a little under an acre, and was both informative and amusing about food foraging. Learning to cook.  CLICK HERE FOR RECIPES! Bridget Carter’s children cookery master-class was an unmitigated success and kids were able to discover for themselves the art of baking, and there perhaps we have some of our future bakery artisans? Sarah’s raw food goodies (really outstanding,  available at the Juice bar, in St. Nick’s Market), were a hit with kids and adults, [read more...]
